Household

Definition

A household is a basic residential unit, involving one or more individuals, in which economic production and consumption are carried out on a shared basis. Households are often treated as the consuming entities, in the sense that many consumption decisions, particularly for goods shared between household members, are carried out at the level of a household.

The members of a household are typically a single family -- however, the concepts of household and family are not synonymous.
